modern steel and glass buildings rush by. the train approaches lechmere, with its beautiful leafy motifs printed on the glass of the elevator and the information boards. empty balconies and dark windows and busy streets fly past in perfect golden lighting. on the surface of the Charles River, still frozen from last night in a few things sheets, a single gull stands on the ice. it grasps at something in the water.
walls of massive concrete panels rise out of the ground, and the somber, golden light of an amber-toned world shrinks down the tunnel behind you. the train enters the tunnels leading to north station.
green line service is currently out between north station and much of the core of Boston. you transfer to a packed orange line car. the steel and glass arches of ruggles station come quickly. at a regular pace, you step down to the busway and approach a white MBTA bus as it arrives with perfect timing.
